February is an important month for so many people:
For many people they honor the many contributions that people of color have made to American History. Since I went to a Performing Arts High School that is now a historical landmark. I will pay honor to Booker T. Washington
For some people they are making better choices to take care of their hearts.
For me February brought countless tears of Joy and Pain. For my tribute to History I want to honor the beautiful and late Whitney Houston. I remember getting a text message from my friend Lori of LAConncects that Whitney Elizabeth Houston passed. I remember being blank and not wanting to do ANYTHING at all. I was on my laptop and began to read people’s comments on twitter. I cried because I could not believe how callous and cold people could treat the memory and life of a legacy. But beyond her being a legacy I began tweeting that BEFORE she was a multiple Grammy award winner she was someone’s child, sister, ex-wife, mother, and a great friend to so many. I cried even more when on her home going service one year to the date my big sister would have been 41. And last year during this time the day after my sister turned 41 I wished her “Happy Birthday “ for the last time.
Now those tears have turned into a fight to find a cure for Lupus and purpose to make people aware that heart disease can be beat. My sister may have lost her battle but she has prepared me for the will and strength to help others.
